The Canon Speedlite 430EX improves on many specifications of its predecessor, the 420EX, and includes new features to maximize digital image quality when using a flash. The fully swiveling bounce head zooms automatically over a range of 24mm-105mm. Its Wireless E-TTL II compatibility permits it to function as a slave unit, triggered by a 580EX, ST-E2, or MR-14EX. Any number of 430EX and 550EX Speedlites can be combined as slave units for creative effects.
The Speedlite 430EX flash is compatible with Canon's latest E-TTL II (Evaluative Through The Lens) auto exposure technology. When combined with a compatible Canon camera (EOS-1D/s Mark II, D-20, Elan 7N/E) and compatible lens, E-TTL II utilizes subject distance and other information that automatically modifies flash power, resulting in accurate flash exposure regardless of subject size, reflectance, or photographic composition. This is great for photographers that shoot high contrast or reflective subjects, like those encountered in wedding photography. Photographers can now capture every detail from the black of tuxedos to the white of wide smiles and wedding dresses.
The Speedlite 430EX also automatically transfers color temperature information to recent models of digital SLR cameras. The camera then sets the best white balance setting for the flash shot. This feature works when the camera's white balance mode is set to Auto White Balance (AWB) or Flash white balance mode.

I am very pleased with this product...
Shoots well in all types of different light conditions,
even when it is pitch black the 430EX takes a decent shot
at close range...
430EX adds a deeper color and warmth to pictures in
conditions where light is lacking...
I am a graphic designer and need great photo's
when I begin work and the 430EX helps with the
process of a more clear and colorful photo when shooting
with my Rebel EOS 5D Digital Camera...

this is an amazing flash i have yet to be not impressed by what this flash can do. it's a little complicated to use when you first use it but it's easy to get used to. there are a few draw backs, the flash eats batteries and the longer you use it the longer it takes for it to recycle, it's great if you don't need fast recycling time.

Does what it is supposed to do and does it automatically. A must have for Canon camera users

I didn't love it,. maybe because i use flash alot and this one just didn't get me enough shots per battery charge. Also the top is heavy. It did sync ok and the settings were pretty easy to figure out. The lighting is also a bit yellow.

I was using a 420EX with a Canon Xti digital camera. When I upgraded to the 430EX it was like turning night into day.
It is also much faster and I like the added distance taking photos in very poor light such as in the late evening outside.. or a unlighted room inside.
